Placeholder story, for Lukas to rewrite in his own words:
Enter your date of birth and the app fills in your country’s life expectancy. Then it shows what’s left as a health bar that drains in real time. Level is your age. Game Over is the estimated date. Get past it and the bar turns gold and starts refilling: “You’re still here!”
Once a day at a random time, a Transmission drops: a quote, one hard number (“248 paydays left”), and a question: did you waste today? A home-screen widget keeps the number in your face.
Decisions
- Native Swift, not React Native. Widgets are the hardest part to do cross-platform and trivial natively. The whole app is small; Android gets its own native port later.
- No server, no accounts, no analytics. Your birth date never leaves the phone. That keeps the App Store privacy form down to one line.
- Drop times are computed, not stored. Each day’s time comes from a per-install seed, so it can’t be re-rolled or lost. Four rounds of phantom notifications taught that one.
- Only public-domain quotes, each checked against the source. Most Seneca and Marcus Aurelius quotes online are fake or come from copyrighted translations.
- Pixel font for titles only. The pixel digits were hard to read and wobbled while ticking, so every number stays in a monospaced font.
- Blunt, never shaming. A bad streak gets “here’s your next move”. The voice changes with your life stage, from cocky early on to gleeful in overtime.
